Research exhibition

24 February – 2 March 2023 | 10-4pm daily.

Mote102 Gallery, Ferry Road, Leith, Edinburgh, Scotland.

The exhibition focuses on the research undertaken over the past year supported by the Inches Carr Creative Development Award 2022.

The award enabled me to study with two specialist mentors, Andrea Spencer (flamework and pulling glass filati) and Andrea Walsh (mould making and casting).  Research took me to Northern Ireland, Ravenna and back to Edinburgh and East Lothian.  It has been a fascinating and informative period that has enabled me to delve deeply into new techniques and concepts. The research has facilitated a shift in scale from the architectural work shown at Collect Open in 2019 to a more intimate, human, hand held scale.  It also facilitated a shift in my gaze from urban environments to nature and our natural surroundings.  As this period of research comes to a close new work is beginning to emerge…

The show will include a large table of research explorations, a selection of previous mosaic and cast concrete artworks, drawings and new work created this year specifically for the exhibition and gallery space.  Our aim is to showcase the research, to foreground the importance of in-depth creative development and to demonstrate the creative shift it has enabled me to make.  I will be in the gallery daily 1-4pm.

Gallery talk followed by preview: Thursday 23 February | 6-8pm

The talk is free but places need to be booked via the gallery / Eventbrite. A link will go live at the end of January / beginning of February.
