Glass Lab Edinburgh, 17 North Leith Sands, Leith, Edinburgh, EH6 4ER
Join Joanna Kessel of Edinburgh Mosaic Studio for a fun, creative day making colourful, abstract mosaic jewellery – a contemporary take on micro-mosaics and very popular in Italy. Come on your own or with a friend to enjoy a sociable day making jewellery as festive presents for friends and loved ones – a unique, handmade gift may be more pertinent than ever this year!
You will be guided through this simple but highly effective technique in step-by-step stages. Each student will be provided with 3 silver plated pendant bezels and there will be a wide range of materials available to use including stained glass (bright spectral hues), unglazed porcelain (easy to cut earthy tones), glass beads and marble. Additionally each student will be a given a few pieces of 24k Venetian gold leaf mosaic to use on the day. Ring and brooch bezels will be available to buy from stocks should you wish.
Some students have small items that tell a story, that they wish to incorporate, please feel free to bring materials with you – small beads, sea glass & pottery.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those with mosaic experience.
Venue: This autumn I will be teaming up with Jeff Zimmer and David Mola of Glass Lab Edinburgh who will be hosting my workshops at their newly opened premises in Leith. We are excited by the possibility of exploring the many interesting connections between stained glass and mosaic. These autumn workshops will kick-start that creative dialogue and we hope that you will wish to join us on this creative journey. www.glasslabedinburgh.com
COVID-19: We are closely monitoring Scottish Government guidelines to ensure the safe provision of the workshop programme, including limiting class sizes, and carrying out extensive risk assessments.
The mosaic workshops are designed for 8 students, however due to current social distancing restrictions places are limited to 5 participants to facilitate this. Should regulations alter we will advise students of any changes prior to the workshop running. We will also advise students of H&S procedures for attending a workshop. Please get in touch if you have any specific questions or concerns – we’re here to listen.
Refreshments: Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. There are a number of cafes nearby (including The Haven, Milk at Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop and The Shore) however students are welcome to bring lunch to eat at the studio.
Glass Lab is based at North Leith Sands. Parking is limited at the studio but there is plenty at nearby Ocean Terminal.
