East Lothian Council Architecture Department commissioned a series of interior and exterior artworks for the new Dunbar Primary School at Lochend Campus. I was commissioned to create integrated mosaic wall surface treatments for all the toilets throughout the school.

In collaboration with the architect we devised an uplifting colour scheme that ran throughout the school environment including the disabled, staff, boys and girls toilets. The stripes and bands of the mosaics reference traditional boat painting, with a colour palette derived from the local fishing industry and seasonal variations found in the farm and coastland of this unique Scottish landscape.

Dunbar was the birthplace of John Muir, the famous conservationist, geologist and environmental philosopher, and in celebration many of the artworks drew upon nature as inspiration.
